Former Judge BS Indrakala Professional Journey

Justice B.S. Indrakala, a seasoned legal professional from Bangalore, India, holds a bachelor of science degree from Maharani College, University of Mysore, and a bachelor of law from Sharada Vilas Law College. With nearly four decades of legal experience, Justice B.S. Indrakala’s career reflects a commitment to the judiciary and public service.

She began her legal journey in 1977 under the mentorship of senior advocate T.V. Krishna Rao at the District Courts in Mysore, gaining expertise in civil, criminal, and labour law. After five years, Justice Indrakala transitioned to practising at the Labour Court, Karnataka High Court, and Bangalore City Civil Court. She also served as in-house legal counsel for Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and Karnataka Electricity Board and was a government pleader.

In 1993, Justice Indrakala was appointed as a district and sessions judge, becoming the second woman in Karnataka to achieve this milestone. Over her tenure, she presided over courts in Tumkur, Mangalore, Raichur, and Bangalore Rural districts. She also held roles such as principal judge of the Family Courts and chief judge of the Court of Small Causes in Bangalore.

B.S. Indrakala’s career advanced with her appointment as a judge of the Karnataka High Court, first as an additional judge and then later as a permanent one. Following this, she headed the Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission as its president, managing consumer courts statewide. She retired from public service in 2019.
